You know how when you send out a marketing email, you will ALWAYS get at least one person that replies with a snarky “Remove me from this list”?
Well, here’s a story about a snarky comment I received after sending out a marketing email, plus a grammatical faux pas all rolled into one.
This was several years ago, mind you…but it still makes me laugh every time I think about it.
I don’t recall the exact wording of my email; it was many years ago. I know I said something like “Proofreading is a quintessential part of making sure your words are understood as you intended them.”
One lady snarkily replied, “You made a mistake in your email! You meant to write ‘quite essential’ but instead you wrote ‘quintessential’.
No actually, Einstein, I intended to write ‘quintessential’ since it is in fact a word! Although you clearly have never heard it, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a word!

I didn’t say that to her—if I recall correctly, I didn’t even bother to dignify her nonsensical email with a reply, but that’s what I thought at the time.
After all, she isn’t the only one who can be snarky…
Yours in crisp, error-free writing,
Jessica xx
